Sarah’s GPS British Accent
This is a video of the Children's Sermon on November 14, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. Linda Birsner shared the message, and 5th graders Josh and Sarah played the roles of the lost motorist and GPS unit. The quality of Sarah's British accent is reflected in the question of at least one older lady who asked the pastor afterwards, "Is that little girl really from England?" 🙂
The Best Pork I’ve Ever Tasted
This video is an interview with Dr Brent Benkelman, as he supervised the final preparations of the 120th pig he’s cooked in his life. Brent co-hosts an annual pig roast potluck for friends in Manhattan, Kansas.

Jack O’Lantern Carving Fun
Each fall our family looks forward to carving pumpkins into jack o’lanterns in advance of Halloween. This year we did it pretty early in October, and unfortunately the weather was so warm the jack o’lanterns molded before Halloween! These were our creations this year!
As you can see, lots of fun was had by all.
This was Alexander’s design, which was a stormtrooper from Star Wars. I thought this was a very creative as well as challenging jack o’lantern!

Sometimes the best photos are candid shots. These were a few pics we took in September on a Sunday when we went to Furrs downtown. I’d won a Furrs gift card and we used it well. Yum!

These are some photos from Alexander’s first debate tournament at Moore High School, in Oklahoma. He was in novice division as a 7th grader, and faced mostly 9th graders. The Lincoln Douglas debate topic currently is:
Resolved: The abuse of illegal drugs ought to be treated as a matter of public health, not of criminal justice.
These are some of Alexander’s flows of debate rounds he competed in. He did REALLY well, breaking into Octafinals! All the Classen teams dropped in Octafinals, however, and none advanced to quarters.

Sarah’s letter to her parents (as Mrs Horn)
Sarah’s 5th grade teacher asked her to write a letter about her academic performance and school behavior to her parents, as if SHE was the teacher.

Fall KSU Football: Family Time!
Rachel, Sarah and Alexander Reflect on Creativity in our Oklahoma Schools
The 2010 Creativity World Forum is coming to Oklahoma City in two weeks. In advance of the event, Creative Oklahoma is sponsoring a Creativity Contest for Students, who are challenged to:
… show us your creative ideas for improving communities, schools and businesses so that Oklahoma remains a creative frontier. We invite all forms of creativity including, but not limited to, essay, video, photography, drawing, or mixed media.

Alexander’s First Debate
These are my flows along with Alexander’s of our practice debate round tonight.
Alex has his first debate tournament next weekend in Moore. He hasn’t had a real practice round in class yet, but hopes to do one this week. Tonight he debated his AFF case and I was NEG. The resolution is: RESOLVED – The abuse of illegal drugs ought to be treated as a matter of public health, not criminal justice. Alex did really well, I hope he is well prepared for this weekend’s tournament. Last year when he took intro to debate I was dismayed he never actually got to debate in class or at a tournament, they just learned how to debate by watching and talking about it. They also wrote cases.
I hope Alexander has a good experience in debate. He has done really well in class. I’ll be eager to hear how things go this weekend at the tourney. I’ll be judging there for Classen.
